Although I confess I do love the larger landscape there are times when it just feels so right to go for detail too. David Ward, for example, is justly well known for his beautifully composed ‘landscape within’ images.
On a very recent holiday to the Scillies I took a photo, more as an act of whimsy than anything else, of a vineyard and shop sign. On its own it was interesting but not ‘sock blowing’ material. But…as part of an e.book or picture show it has a valuable place in conveying the real feel of a location. It’s back to my old credo, I guess, of WHY am I taking this shot?
So, to tell a story or convey an atmosphere don’t forget to look for those detail shots too.
PS – the photo shown has sold to a Tourism magazine – smiley face!!

🙂
