Our Glorious Weather!

We seem, in the UK at the moment, to be ‘enjoying’ the old four seasons in 24 hours scenario again. Actually, I love it. It gives some fantastic lighting opportunities for us outdoor photographers. I took myself off to the Glamorgan Heritage Coast yesterday and enjoyed a mixture of blue sky, low sun, sun rays, dramatic dark clouds etc.
For sure not all the photographs were top notch, but one or two I was pleased with and I certainly discovered some great new locations to revisit.
If I am looking for a moral here I suppose it’s this; don’t write off the day with your camera if the weather looks grotty or mixed. Get out there and see what nature gives you to work with – you just never know!

This is so true. I am as good as everyone else at deciding to stay in with a warm cup of tea when conditions look bleak. But the few times I have ventured out when I thought I wouldn’t be able to find a single image to photograph have mainly amazed me and I’ve come back with something that is not only a bit different, but often what I consider my best images.
I need to remind myself of this more often, but you’ll only truly excel when you take a risk. I.e. get out there in grim weather. Most people can take a nice image on a sunny day 🙂

True – do you remember you and I (and others) photographing those dreadful floods in the Lake District in 2009!!

How could I ever forget those floods. Although to be fair, I did struggle to take some images that I like during it… but I put that down to the stress 🙂

You are so right! One afternoon last year I took my camera out in heavy snow when most people were nice and warm in their homes sitting by the fire with their hot chocolate. I came back with an image that got me my first ever acceptance into the Welsh Salon. The next day I ventured out early in the morning with camera AND tripod this time. The scene that awaited me was absolutely stunning. A beautiful sunrise with morning mist and everything all around covered in the white stuff. So no matter what the weather is… rain, wind, snow, storms etc… if you want something that’s different the answer is to get your camera out, get out there and make the most of it!

Absolutely right Heidi. Looking forward to some great photography this winter!
